I hear my clients often say something to the tune of, "we're not big picture people... we don't prefer to be in front of a camera but we also really want our wedding day to be well documented," so I can only deduce that, generally, that's the kind of folk for whom I'm the photographer. I'm calm, regardless; I place an emphasis on knowing who I'm photographing – not only you but your family; I respond to emails and telephone calls and text messages quickly; I want to help make your wedding great and my primary aim is to make a set of photographs that truly fits you.
Reduced down: I want for your entire wedding experience to be remarkable and I want to do what I can to achieve that across the board.

My wedding collections are custom-built for each client. I offer a couple collections to serve as a bit of a starting point, but I'm happy to show up for any celebration for any amount of time and therefore don't have a "prices starting at" or a "clients spend on average" figure. But, drop me a quick note and let's chat – I can easily give you a good ballpark figure after knowing just a few things about your plans.
Family portraits are available in the following configurations: an in-studio session for $350, a ~45 minute session at the location of your choosing for $550, and a custom session including multiple locations and unlimited time for $775.
Travel fees are applied to agreements that fall outside of a sixty-mile radius surrounding the Kansas City metro, and are pretty simple; I just ask that my expenses are covered either upfront (in the event you’d like to take advantage of miles or points on your end), or via receipt and reimbursement when our balance comes due.

Truth be told, I fell into it by happy accident in 2010, coming from a background in design and marketing. I repeatedly choose to stick with it because I so appreciate the relationships and the anthropological aspect of such an event, and I enjoy getting to witness and preserve such a formative day between families which will undoubtedly be remembered for generations.

I do – both 35mm and 120 medium format. I lean pretty hard on the technological benefits of digital but I also supplement film throughout the day, particularly portraits. This usually translates into three to six rolls per wedding.
If you dig film, let me know – I'm always looking for ways to further incorporate it.

With respect to planning, Ted Lasso said it best: “We can’t be good partners if we don’t know each other.” I'm happy to be as hands-on or as on-standby as you see fit, but generally speaking, the better I know you the better photographs I can make for you.
With respect to wedding day, my approach is largely a calm and candid one, focusing more on natural flow and less on contrivance (all while keeping our strategic plan and timeline in mind.) I'm less hype-man than conduit of calm, but I also play a fairly good bossy aunt come family portrait time.

Absolutely. Once I know your wedding season and venue, I'm happy to send relevant full galleries from recent past, for reference.

In simple terms, an engagement session is an hour or so of getting to know each other more. We’ll typically visit a couple locations and you’re welcome to change outfits if you’d like. I don’t ask for much in the way of smiles or poses, but instead seek to prompt you to be your natural selves together. I’ll ask for your input on the feel of your portraits, and from there am happy to exercise some creative freedom in putting together a game plan.
-
I do. It's just off the West Bottoms area and has an open door for portraits, consults and wedding days.

Planning such is pretty simple! If you have locations or vibes in mind, we start there. And if you don't, I'm happy to spitball back and forth until we get a plan that fits well tacked down. I have a studio where I love to make these portraits, and I'm also happy to visit the location(s) of your choosing.
No deposit required – I just ask that our balance is paid upon delivery of your photographs.
-
Always, via online gallery and portable drive — with rights to print them.

I take a quality-over-quantity approach. This typically boils down to around sixty-five or so images per each hour I’m present on wedding weekend or for a family portrait shoot. Of the entire group of images I take, I’ll first cull through so as to pick out the keepers; from there, I individually color correct and process each image.
Turnaround time on engagement portraits and family portraits is three weeks. Turnaround time on a wedding gallery is eight weeks, with sixty or so highlights dropped in your inbox the Tuesday following your wedding.

Rest easy – for every camera body, lens, and flash that I use, there’s a backup waiting in a bag not far away.
-
Of course. If you’d like the nitty gritty, or if your venue requires a certificate of liability, I’m happy to provide it.

The short answer: ten or so hours is a sweet spot in my opinion.
The long answer: I’m a big fan of helping you identify the plans and the timing that make the most sense all things considered, THEN figuring out how photography best fits into that plan. Otherwise, it depends on a few things – primarily, the number of locations included in wedding day. Are you and your fiancé preparing for the day in two different spots? Are you prepping on-site where your ceremony will take place? Would you like to stop off somewhere for portraits? Is your reception happening across town? On the flip side, if everything day-of is happening in one spot, this simplifies things. It’s also important to talk about which parts of the beginning and end of the day are worth preserving to you; if you’re planning to exit through sparklers, for instance, this is a considerable timing piece. Read on below for even more details.

Oftentimes, I work with folks who come into the conversation simply wanting two photographers present on wedding day. If you’re of this opinion, that’s great – I’m happy to provide an associate. With this in mind, I’d push to have a conversation regarding the ins and outs, timing and locations involved in your wedding day to be certain this is a cost-effective add-on.
My associates are all folks who either currently photograph weddings professionally on their own as well, or have in the past. They're all folks whom I'd trust to take the reins if necessary.

As a baseline, a decent time for me to show up is when there's an hour-and-a-half or so until you're completely ready to walk out the door. Otherwise, if you’d prefer to have a larger portion of this time covered, or if you’ve got particular photo-worthy plans – a well-thought-out brunch or lunch, for instance – then I’d love to be around as early as you’d like.
-
I love this part of the day. It produces photographs that are 100% candid… and it’s impossible to have a bad time while cutting loose. If you’re of the same opinion, then I’d be delighted to hang with you until the last song. Otherwise, an hour or so of time is typically a good amount to capture the spirit of the dance floor.
-
I always love covering such. Your fashion and venue choices, as well as whether you’re having toasts happen here, are things to consider. This is an extra opportunity to snag some portraits with your near and dear ones, too.
-
High fives! I just ask for a signed contract and a retainer of $1,500.00 to secure your date. Quickly thereafter, we’ll plan some engagement portraits, if desired, as well as a few sit-downs to discuss particulars and goings-on. I put a significant emphasis on a process that’s enjoyable and personal, so we’ll make sure to have a great time while planning and getting to know each other better.
-
Definitely. I’d be happy to tell you about all of my favorite planners, film makers, florists, bands, DJs, caterers, graphic designers, calligraphers, stationers, jewelers and bakers. Just ask!
